Philicia Thompson is completing her master’s of mass communications at the University of South Carolina. With a program emphasis in strategic communication management, she makes great use of her undergraduate degree in public relations and professional work experiences. She now works as a graduate research assistant in the Arnold School of Public Health’s Prevention Research Center and contributes to communications management and development.
Throughout her undergraduate career, Philicia maintained an array of internship positions. Most recently she was a Consultant for the Capstone Service Team. In this role she not only contributed to the strategic maintenance of the time but in addition facilitated data tracking, assessment, service opportunity development, and member mentorship. Previously she worked as the Executive Assistant at Leeza’s Care Connection, a local nonprofit assisting family caregivers. There she primarily assisted with event curation as well as working directly with caregivers offering resources, support, and education.
Since high school she has worked diligently in the nonprofit sector and has contributed to the formation and success of multiple organizations. She is a founding member of the Capstone Scholars Service Team and of Advocates Against Alzheimer’s. Two service organizations focused on fostering connections between students and their Columbia community.
Philicia aspires to become a specialized public relation professional impacting internal and community relations. She hopes to spend her life doing work that is rooted in compassion, empathy, and social progress.
She was born and raised a New Mexican but has spent the last five years in the Carolinas furthering her education. After graduation Philicia hopes to leave Columbia for a bigger city and eventually move back out west.
